The Money Issue

After significant developments in 2016, it will come as no surprise that the new year brings an air of uncertainty. From the aftermath of Brexit to the possible return of grammar schools, there are many challenges ahead for the independent school sector. However, this has not disheartened the sector, as our special report on page 123 illustrates how schools are planning to adapt to today’s financial climate. Headteachers across the UK are open to discussing funding, fees and bursaries, so that they can make sure that they continue to be at the forefront of education.

Which brings me onto money, the theme of this issue and something that is never far from our minds. Hilary Moriarty talks candidly on page 36 about the importance of money and its role in keeping talented teachers in the classroom, whilst our facilities news on page 34 illustrates how investing in new buildings means that schools can continue to flourish.

Elsewhere, we welcome a new feature called ‘School Spotlight’ on page 40, which is an opportunity for one school to showcase its creativity. In this issue, Truro School discusses co-curricular activities and how it aids character developments.
