AUCSO announces Annual Awards 2022 shortlist

The Association of University Chief Security Officers (AUCSO), the leading organisation for security professionals working in higher and further education around the world, has announced its Annual Awards 2022 shortlist. The winners will be announced at a gala dinner on Thursday 31 March 2022 at the University of Leeds.

The Annual Awards celebrate the amazing work security teams have achieved within their institutions during 2021, one of the most difficult years in recent memory. This year alongside the other categories of Security Officer of the Year, Security Team of the Year and Security Initiative of the Year, AUCSO has introduced a new category, Security Manager of the Year. This new category has been introduced to recognise the superb work by those in management positions within these institutions.


The awards shortlist is:

Security Officer of the Year

Phillip Barnett: University of Queensland Australia

Stephen Nolan: Heriot-Watt University


Security Manager of the Year

Hannah Booth: Heriot-Watt University

Terry Branch: Imperial College London

Geoff Brown: University of York


Security Team of the Year

B-shift Team: University of Essex

Campus Security Team: University of Glasgow

Campus Security Team: University of Liverpool

Security Day Team: Staffordshire University


Security Initiative of the Year

Heriot-Watt University: Dubai Campus

Imperial College London: Health & Wellbeing Initiative

University of Queensland Australia: Mass Notification System

Commenting on the awards shortlist, AUCSO Chief Operating Officer, Julie Barker, says:

“We are delighted to announce this year’s awards shortlist and it’s wonderful to see such a breadth of universities being shortlisted from across the UK and the whole world.  We are very much looking forward to announcing the winners later this month.”

The award ceremony forms part of the 2022 AUCSO Annual Conference and AGM taking place from Tuesday 29 March until Thursday 31 March 2022.

The Association of University Chief Security Officers, AUCSO, is the primary association for Security Professionals working in Universities, Colleges and Institutions of Higher and Further Education in the UK, Europe and across the globe. Current members represent 24 countries. Membership is available by Institution.

The Association provides a forum for its members to exchange knowledge, information and best practice relating to security management within the sector.

AUCSO liaises with government agencies on current areas of concern and provides training for our members on Resilience (Emergency Management & Business Continuity), Mental Health Response, Counter Terrorism and Tackling Drugs.

Members are also able to share knowledge, experience and local security training within the eleven global geographic regions, each of which hold their own local meetings and appoint a representative who sits on the Association Executive Committee.
