Deadline for Thank a Teacher campaign nears

March 9 is the deadline for entries to celebrate the nation's classroom heroes

The Teaching Awards Trust is encouraging students, parents and colleagues to submit names of inspirational teachers to the Thank a Teacher campaign before the closing date on Friday 9th March.

The campaign is an opportunity to say thank you to the most inspirational teachers in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Teachers can be nominated by completing the online entry form.

The Pearson Teaching Awards was founded in 1998 by Lord Puttnam to recognise the significant impact of inspirational teachers on the lives of their young pupils.

Every teacher nominated will receive a thank you from the charity through the post and be entered into the 2018 Pearson Teaching Awards.

In June, 60 of the nominated teachers will make the Silver Winners shortlist – and 12 Gold Winners will be celebrated at the star-studded annual Pearson Teaching Awards Ceremony in October.

The Awards are now in their twentieth year and to celebrate the milestone, each nominator will be in with the chance of winning a signed copy of Flamingo Boy and tickets to the West End play, War Horse. Both are works by the President of the Teaching Awards, Michael Morpurgo.

Morpurgo said: “The influence of a good teacher lasts a lifetime. Becoming an inspirational teacher is an admirable commitment.  Memorable, outstanding teaching should be celebrated by educators, pupils, parents and throughout society.  With these awards we’re taking the time to recognise the remarkable, often unappreciated efforts of Britain’s classroom heroes UK-wide.”

The grand final ceremony of Britain’s Classroom Heroes will be broadcast in October by BBC2 television.  Previous award presenters have included David Cameron, Tony Blair, Alison Steadman, Shirley Ballas and Nadiya Hussain.
