Meet the panel
Andy Youell has spent over 30 years working with data and information and with the systems and people that process it. After a spell with the HE funding council, he joined the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) in 1996. Andy’s work has covered all aspects of the data and systems lifecycle and in recent years has focussed on improving institutions’ relationship with data. He was a member of the DfE Information Standards Board for a number of years. Having left HESA last year, he now works with universities and colleges as a strategic data adviser.
In his recent article for Education Technology, Andy said “we need to get better at building peoples’ awareness and confidence around data if we are to get to a point where organisations drive real value from their data.”
Jon Cole is head of management information services at Morley College, an Institute for Adult Learning (IAL) in central London. He’s worked in further education MIS for almost 20 years, first with Tower Hamlets College and then Mid-Kent College before joining Morley in 2011. Over the last eight years, Jon and his team have introduced significant developments in online applications and enrolments with UNIT-e.
Jon has argued that FE institutions must put business intelligence at the centre of decision-making, and explained in his University Business article, “for our college, adopting some of the approaches that succeed in the world of business is one way to stay ahead.”
Rob Clark has worked in further and higher education software for over 20 years, starting his career in systems support at the University of Oxford before joining Capita as a UNIT-e support analyst. Rob progressed on to various customer-facing roles to his current position as regional manager at Capita Education Software where he works with FE colleges and training providers up and down the country.
