London teacher invited to celebrated US schools tech gathering

Hiten Mistry, from Putney High School, spent a week at the Discovery Education Summer Institute, exploring how best to use technology to support pupil achievement

Pupils at a London school have been enjoying tech-boosted lessons, thanks to one of their teachers being one of just four from the UK invited to attend a celebrated sector event in the United States.

Hiten Mistry, from Putney High School, spent a week in Utah at the Discovery Education Summer Institute, a July gathering focused on using technology to support pupil attainment.

Hundreds of tech-savvy educators participated in the 14th running of the event, at the Weber State University.

Seminars and hands-on workshops were held to share ideas and inspiration for creating digital learning environments to better engage pupils.

“After 16 years in education I’ve never experienced over 100 educators from different educational contexts in one room, sharing and collaborating,” said Mistry.

“The positive vibes, stories and ideas from all those I met will stay with me for a very long time.”

The week was organised by the Discovery Education Community, which aims to connect teachers through social media and events.
