Student law and tech writing competition offers £2,000 prize

The Justis International Law and Technology Writing Competition 2020 will launch on 1 October 2019

An international writing competition open to college and university students is offering a £2,000 grand prize for an essay on law and technology.

Run by legal publisher Justis and parent company vLex, the competition will be open to applications from 1 October 2019.

Students must write 1,000 words on one of three topics:

  • Technology and the future of legal practice
  • Social media, data and privacy
  • Access to justice and technology

As well as the financial prize, the winning student’s work will also be published on the Legal Cheek Journal website, and included in Justis’ international newsletter, which goes out to thousands of legal practitioners around the world.

Three £250 prizes will also be awarded, one for each Best in Category.  These articles will also be published on the Justis and vLex blogs.

Past winners of the competition include students from Harvard University, the University of Oxford, Trinity College London, the University of London, BPP, and the University of Auckland.

The 2018 overall winner, Roisin Costello, said: “The competition offers an exceptional opportunity to expose your writing to Justis’ international readership, and an associated impact for your research findings and ideas few students receive.”

The deadline for entries is 1 December 2019, and the shortlist and winners will be announced at the start of spring 2020.
