UK Robotics Week welcomes nine-year-old CEO
Callum Daniel, CEO of iCodeRobots, brought his coding know-how to Here East with a taster course for 7-12-year-olds
As part of Engineer Here and UK Robotics Week, 9-year-old coding whizz kid Callum Daniel offered a free taster course for his company iCodeRobots. Having been introduced to Here East via the UltraKids programme 18 months ago, Callum ran his 90-minute class on June 30th on the East London campus.
Callum was first introduced to robots at the age of four, after a holiday to Butlins where he was captivated by a robot named Titan. Callum became obsessed with finding out how Titian worked, which led to Callum’s mum buying him his own robot soon afterwards. Five years on, and as one of the youngest CEO’s of our time, Callum runs his own company called iCodeRobots, which he started so that he could share his love of robotics and coding with other children.
iCodeRobots teaches children between the ages of six and twelve the basics of coding robots. The company has been sponsored by Loughborough University London who provide a space for the children to learn.
Here East’s innovation campus is already a thriving spot for those working in robotics. Tenants include the likes of Hobs Studio, who specialise in 3D printing and run the largest 3D printer of its kind in the UK and The Ford Smart Mobility Office. Prominently, Here East is also home to UCL’s pioneering Robotics Lab which gives students opportunities to develop prototypes and structures at scale, and to work on innovative new technologies that will be applied across healthcare, manufacturing and the creative industries.
Here East, which is located at the heart of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park is home to a vibrant community. The campus is unique in providing the space and infrastructure for entrepreneurs, global businesses and academics to come together and collaborate in the pursuit of innovation.
Callum’s event was part of the wider Government Campaign Engineer Here, also known as the Year of Engineering, which is working to inspire the next generation of thinkers, innovators and problem solvers. Engineer Here incorporates a range of events taking place in Here East and across the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park celebrating the world of engineering. The events, which are hosted by Here East and partners, showcased the exciting growth and development of new technologies and innovation taking place on the Here East campus and across the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
Gavin Poole, CEO of Here East, commented:“iCodeRobots is a unique and innovative business, and we are delighted that Callum is able to host his courses at Here East. Our vision for Here East is to create an environment and a place where people are keen to work, study and collaborate – being able to support Callum in bringing iCodeRobots to life has been exceptional, and we look forward to seeing the company grow and continues to inspire children to learn about robotics.”
