The Coronavirus pandemic has meant significant changes for all of us in our day to day lives. For children and educators the disruption has been significant.

Children and teachers alike have had to discover how to learn and teach remotely. With schools open again, what challenges now face us in ensuring we safeguard our pupils? 

In this webinar, we discuss the challenges educators are facing and the wide range of difficulties children are experiencing due to the pandemic. We will be exploring how we can look to safeguard pupils, and look after their mental wellbeing in these uncertain times.

Jo Finlay - Deputy Headteacher, Great Barr Academy

I started at Great Barr Academy in 1994 as an NQT in PE and Dance. I was so passionate about teaching and making a difference to the pupils I taught. I don’t teach anymore but I have never lost that passion for my work and the profession. I started working in the pastoral care of pupils in my second Year of teaching. I have been a Head of House, Head of Inclusion, Assistant Head Inclusion and Deputy Headteacher and Designated Safeguarding lead. It is such a challenging role but incredibly rewarding.

Michael Brennan - Co-founder and CEO, Tootoot

As a result of suffering from bullying in silence throughout Primary school and Secondary school, Michael alongside co-founder Kieran Innes developed tootoot, the UK's No 1, award-winning, reporting app for children and young people. Tootoot gives children and young people a voice to report any concerns, which may be affecting their mental health and wellbeing, directly to their school, college or university. Michael and his team are on a mission to provide 1million children and young people with a voice globally and they are well on their way to doing this. Michael is an expert in pupil voice technology and has won a number of awards recently including; Forbe's 30 under 30 entrepreneur of the year, Nominet Trust Global 100 winner and Tech Nation's Rising Star 2020.

Andy Pyper - Safeguarding Manager, Entrust

Andy Pyper is an ex-primary teacher and has been involved in education for over 20 years, 13 of these as a lead for online safety. He was involved in the original review and roll out of digital monitoring software across Birmingham and, more recently, he developed and implemented the Digital Monitoring Service. As the Safeguarding manager within Entrust he works closely with suppliers, schools and the Birmingham Safeguarding teams to ensure that the services and guidance provided are up to date and reflect best practice. He is an Online Safety Assessor, CEOP Ambassador and Wrap trainer.
