And the Tech4Good Award goes to…

Lots of students are among the runners and riders for this year’s Tech4Good Awards, recognising those who’ve used digital technology to improve lives

The finalists have been announced for AbilityNet’s Tech4Good Awards 2018, an annual showcase for those who have deployed digital technology to better the lives of others.

And the nominees are…

BT Young Pioneer Award

Open to any individual or groups of up to five people under the age of 18 across the UK

 – Code Camp A charity that teaches computer programming skills to children aged 9-16. To date, the charity has reached over 70,000 young people

 – IMAREC A fire safety app that uses augmented reality to show users an escape route out of large buildings

 – Mind Moodz An app that lets teens track their moods to help them understand triggers and highlight positive aspects of their lives

 – Water Watcher A product that automatically turns off taps, helping those with memory problems in their everyday lives

BT Connected Society Award

Aims to uncover new and innovative tech products or services that can help transform people’s lives.

 – Alcove An Internet of Things assistive technology ecosystem that helps elderly and disabled adults remain safe while staying independent

 – Always in Mind Allows elderly people to communicate with their friends and relatives by providing easy access to photos, videos, chats and emails in one place

 – Greengame An app and tech stack tracking user activities that impact the environment, with no manual entry required

 – Rafiqi An online platform that uses machine learning to provide refugees with opportunities to help them integrate into society, including jobs, degrees, and cultural training

 – Small Robot Company The company is reimagining farming for the robotic age by creating small, precise, and efficient robots that plant, feed, and weed crops autonomously

Winners of the BT Connected Society Award and the BT Young Pioneer Award will have their ideas “nurtured and supported” by BT. All the winners will be announced at a ceremony at BT Centre in London on 17 July.

Ian Caveney, BT’s Head of Digital and Social Inclusion, said: “The level of quality entrants we have had for the Young Pioneer and Connected Society Awards has been astounding, and we are proud to be able to showcase all our finalists’ exceptional work at the awards ceremony.”
