Aston University launches free WiFi across campus

Top 25 university rolls out free WiFi from The Cloud to its visitors including guest lecturers and prospective students

Aston University has rolled out free WiFi across its 40-acre campus to be used by all guests and visitors to the university, from visiting lecturers and conference delegates to prospective students.

The WiFi, provided by The Cloud, will work alongside the existing staff and student WiFi services and will be available in locations across the entire campus including the sports centre and state of the art library. The service will enable guests to go online quickly and easily – allowing free, fast access to the Aston University app (myAston) for visitors attending an open day, as well as surf the web.

As one of the top 25 universities for student satisfaction and a leading university for graduate employment Aston receives thousands of visitors each year to its events and venues, who will now be able to benefit from access to the WiFi.

“All of the visitors to our university from guest lecturers, to potential students want to stay connected. To ensure we meet the needs of our visitors we wanted to provide a reliable, free service whether you’re visiting from Birmingham or Beijing,” said Trevor Bayliss, IT Technical Director, Aston University.

“Prospective students are increasingly looking for added value from the university they choose and we want to ensure from the first time they step on campus they feel welcome and at home. Offering services such as free WiFi is the kind of thing that puts us ahead of the competition.”

Once registered, users will also be able to easily connect to The Cloud WiFi at any of the WiFi provider’s 22,000 UK hotspots.
