CollegeSource and the AACRAO partner on college policy database

The Higher Education Institutional Policy Portal will let university staff from across the US compare policies from other institutions

Leading software as a service provider (SaaS) CollegeSource has partnered with the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO) on the formation of the Higher Education Institutional Policy Portal. The centralised repository will provide a space where administrators, staff and faculty from across the US can analyse and compare policies from other institutions.

With roots dating back to 1971, CollegeSource creates products for degree audit, academic planning, and transfer credit evaluation and articulation, used by more than 2,000 colleges and universities worldwide. Alongside the AACRAO, CollegeSource is set to build the pre-eminent database for policies on university campus operations, including academia, campus safety and disability.

The portal is set to be rolled out later this year, and will be made available to AACRAO members as a complementary resource, with a preview scheduled for the AACRAO’s annual New Orleans conference this April.

“Our members are heavily involved in the development and application of higher education policies and have been clamouring for a searchable, trusted policy repository that can be utilised when developing new or benchmarking existing policies,” said Melanie Gottlieb, deputy director of the AACRAO.

“Based on CollegeSource’s extensive experience in professionally gathering, collecting, cleansing, and organising college course catalogues, we are thrilled they volunteered to spearhead this project. This will be an invaluable tool for the greater higher ed universe”

Troy Holaday, president of CollegeSource, said: “As academic and institutional policies have historically been an intrinsic part of the institutions’ course catalogues but now are scattered through various print and online resources, we recognised the critical need for a policy research and reporting repository to enable collective best practices across the industry.

“With significant issues such as free speech, gendering and campus safety coming to the forefront more frequently for policy makers, institutions need access to well-crafted policies that fit tightly with their missions and philosophies,” he added. “We are thrilled to work with AACRAO to deliver this resource to its members and beyond.”
