Digital learning boosts exam results, say teachers

Research reveals a quarter of teachers believe digital learning boosts exam results by at least one grade

Virgin Media Business has published the findings from its annual ‘Generation Tech’ research, a state of the nation report that examines the use of technology and digital in the classroom. 

The online research which was carried out by YouGov, reveals that more than a third (35%) of teachers questioned now use technology (from laptops to tablets and interactive whiteboards) in every lesson.

In fact, over a quarter of teachers (29%) said their school now allows pupils to use their own smartphones or tablets during a lesson for learning purposes.

The research also revealed that more than a third of teachers surveyed (35%) believe that using technology and the internet in the classroom unlocks creativity and a quarter (25%) think that exam results can improve by at least one grade. 14% of teachers surveyed also think that video-conferencing (e.g. Skype) should be an option for parent’s evening.

Teachers in the South West are amongst the most embracing of technology in the classroom – teachers surveyed in the region are the most likely to say their school allows students to bring their own smartphone or tablets into the classroom, and teachers in the region are the most likely in England to think that using technology can improve exam results by at least one grade.
