All over the UK, and indeed worldwide, students have evolved into tech-savvy, connected individuals; born into the digital age, they are entering school with a heightened digital acumen. Undoubtedly, technology has become commonplace throughout our lives, and its impact on education has not gone unnoticed.
To help educators get to grips with how to harness its potential, the Education Show 2014 will present its innovative new ‘Technology in Education’ feature. Housing a seminar theatre and Demonstration Island, teachers will be able to get ‘hands on’ with the latest and greatest technology for education, have their questions answered by the experts, and come away with a new confidence for implementing education technology.
The event will host more than 350 exhibitors showcasing new and innovative resources and services. Visitors can try and test a range of products and services and establish which ones are best for them, from whole-school solutions to best-value classroom resources. So, what can visitors to the Education Show 2014 expect to see?
Recognising a need for increased technology in education, particularly quality educational apps, Daydream Education, on stand A32, will showcase its new curriculum-based apps at this year’s show, which will be available for iOS and android. Featuring an abundance of interactive content and engaging assessment activities, the apps for maths, English and science offer students a source of flexible, independent learning. They have been designed to be easy to navigate and feature an attractive user interface that combines with the interactive curriculum-based content to provide an engaging and inspirational learning experience.
Route 2 Education Technology, the company behind the successful Digital Nursery brand on Stand K39-J40, will showcase its latest product, The Axis, a 42-inch, multi-touch screen which can be operated as a flat table or tilted vertically, at the show. Aimed at seven- to 11-year-olds, the table comes loaded with a wide range of relevant software, which teachers are invited to try for themselves over the three days.
Teachers are also encouraged to stop by stand G76, where PC World Business, the UK’s only nationally branded technology retailer with a dedicated business team set up to support your IT requirements, will be on hand to answer any questions or queries visitors may have. With more than 290 business centres, based in Currys PC World stores nationwide, all with dedicated business advisers accredited from leading partners such as Apple, Microsoft, HP, Toshiba, Samsung and Cisco, they aim to provide unbiased advice and create a solution that’s right for you.
In addition to this, other exciting features of the show will include the School Leaders Summit – a free, two-day conference – developed as a result of intensive research with more than 100 heads, governors, business managers and leaders from across the country. As such, school leaders and management teams will be able to discuss the issues of most significance to schools at the moment. These will include using technology to enhance learning, innovating teaching and learning, designing a fair and effective teacher appraisal policy, and achieving successful communication with staff, pupils and parents.
CPD will also feature heavily at the show, with more than 120 free-to-attend seminars, workshops and discussion sessions over the show’s three days offering something for everyone. From practical ‘How do I’ sessions to inspiring technology workshops, specific teaching practice and whole school issues; a whole host of topics will be addressed. Alongside this, Professor Brian Cox is a confirmed keynote speaker for the Education Show 2014, and he will address visitors to help stimulate 21st-century learning.
