The Wi-Fi, provided by The Cloud, will cover 69 locations including main campus and buildings across the city via more than 500 access points. The service will enable guests to go online quickly and easily – allowing access to the University of Leicester app, plus online tools including educational resources and social media.
With the average UK adult spending almost four hours a day online or on non-voice mobile and tablet activities1, Wi-Fi is vital to people visiting the University. Each year the University of Leicester welcomes guest lecturers and the general public to its events and venues, who will now be able to benefit from access to Wi-Fi.
“As a large university with a constant stream of visiting alumni, guest lecturers, prospective students and other visitors, providing Wi-Fi is essential to meet today’s expectations. Connectivity is expected from all our visitors and we are meeting this need,” said Daniel Lawrence, Deputy Director of IT, at the University of Leicester.
“We all live in a mobile-first world and institutions like the University of Leicester are responding by providing Wi-Fi access across the entire campus.” said Roger Matthews, Commercial Director at The Cloud.
“Being able to use the internet wherever you are on campus seamlessly is expected. This is vital for visitors. For example imagine a prospective student at an open day – access to a mobile campus map, or information about different faculties will help them feel more comfortable with the university and what it has to offer.”
