Cyber Security Challenge UK launches Cyber Re:coded – a European cyber security careers show, taking place on 15-16th October this year. Backed by HM Government, the event will see thousands of people visit Tobacco Dock in East London to meet prospective employers, seek careers advice and learn more about the amazing world of cyber security from those at the heart of research and development.
Minister for Digital and the Creative Industries, Margot James, said: “The UK is home to a booming cyber security sector and it is fantastic to see Cyber Security Challenge UK inspiring our talent of the future. From security software developer to incident response, this industry offers exciting roles for people who have a natural aptitude in problem solving and good communication skills. I encourage anyone interested to attend and see if they’ve got what it takes.”
Cyber Re:coded runs alongside the European Cyber Security Challenge (ECSC), an event that sees 18 countries across Europe compete in a two-day ethical hacking competition to find the continent’s ultimate cyber champions.
We want to inspire the next generation to think seriously about cyber security – as a career choice, as a thriving industry, but mostly as a key life skill for their future.
– Colin Lobley, CEO, Cyber Security Challenge UK
Colin Lobley, CEO, Cyber Security Challenge UK said: “This event is a culmination of everything we do here at the Challenge. We want to inspire the next generation to think seriously about cyber security – as a career choice, as a thriving industry, but mostly as a key life skill for their future. In a world that is becoming ever more connected, security should be at the heart of everything we do and everything we build. As a father myself, I would urge parents to bring their children along and see what amazing opportunities await in cyber security and how much fun you can have in a career.”
The programme for Cyber Re:coded will be announced soon, but will include CV workshops, demonstrations of new, cutting edge cyber security technology, information for career changers and practical advice on cyber security basics for people of all ages.
The event will be open for education groups to attend, with additional activity tracks designed to boost everyday learning in computer science, maths, business, psychology and even art.
To mark the launch of the event, Cyber Re:coded has also launched a competition aimed at capturing the nations view of cyber security. Entrants must capture what they think cyber security is via picture, video, poems, essays or animations. The best entries will be showcased at the event and could win top gadgets and goody bags.
The event is free to attend, and tickets are available now at www.cyberrecoded.com.
