Northampton to host ISIRC

The University of Northampton is to host the International Social Innovation Research Conference (ISIRC) next month

The University of Northampton will play host to the 6th International Social Innovation Research Conference (ISIRC) between 1-3 September, welcoming scholars from across the globe to discuss the role of innovation in social businesses, social movements, not-for-profits and the broader social economy.

The three-day conference will feature a variety of papers from leading industry experts and University of Northampton staff and students, covering topics including health and wellbeing, science and sustainability and politics and ethics.

The University of Northampton is particularly proud to welcome two high profile keynote speakers to the event; Marina Kim, Co-Founder and Executive Director of AshokaU, a worldwide network of universities dedicated to teaching and developing social innovation, and Professor Alex Nicholls, an internationally recognised Professor in Social Entrepreneurship from Oxford University.

Marina Kim’s passion has led to universities around the world embedding social innovation at their core, work that was recently recognised by Forbes who named Marina in their ‘Under 30 for Social Entrepreneurship’. Marina will deliver her speech on the morning of Tuesday 2 September and meet with University governors and leaders about embedding social innovation into the University DNA.

Tim Curtis, the University of Northampton’s Changemaker Campus lead, commented: “This is a very prestigious international conference that moves around the leading Universities of the UK and the EU, so it is an honour to host ISIRC this year. Northampton is a showcase of research and teaching about social enterprise, entrepreneurship and socially motivated innovation, but we don’t just research and teach – we do it, as a key element of our University strategy. I am excited and in awe of the talented people who are visiting us this summer to talk about their work.”
