Outstanding VTCT apprentice reaps rewards

Luke Court, who has been with the charitable trust for two years, triumphed twice at the Southampton City College Awards

The Vocational Training Charitable Trust (VTCT) has recognised the achievements of one of its apprentices in a ceremony with its Board of Trustees. Luke Court, who has been with VTCT for two years as an IT apprentice, won two awards at the Southampton City College Awards 2018.

The event saw more than 40 students and apprentices awarded across the evening, with Luke recognised for both the City College Achievement Award in IT and one of the highest accolades of the night, the RSM UK Audit Apprentice of the Year.

Following the event, Luke’s achievements were celebrated at a VTCT Board of Trustees meeting, recognising his hard work and contribution to the company. Chair of Trustees, Chris Law, also awarded Luke with a £50 voucher.

Luke demonstrates how apprenticeships can be a prosperous career path. Alan Woods, CEO of VTCT

Following the presentation, Alan Woods, CEO of VTCT, said: “We’re all incredibly proud of Luke, and he’s become an integral part of the team. As an awarding body, we’re naturally champions of apprenticeships and it’s wonderful to have our own success story to shout about.

“Luke demonstrates how apprenticeships can be a prosperous career path, providing a structured training programme, and also give learners the freedom to explore the working environment and make the most out of the opportunities available.”

Luke said: “I knew I wanted to work in IT, so an apprenticeship was a great fit for me. Being able to apply theory immediately into practise is my preferred way to learn. I’ve been here for two years already, and I’m now moving on to complete my level three apprenticeship certificate. In the future, I see myself continuing to develop my skills in an environment like VTCT where I feel supported.”

Luke is undertaking a Level 3 Diploma in Professional Competence for IT and Telecoms Professionals. He is studying with Southampton City College, on an apprenticeship framework. Luke started with VTCT on the Level 2 ICT apprenticeship, prior to moving on to the Level 3.
