Winners announced of contest backing higher education

The StudentVoices video competition asked entrants to explain how college attendance bettered their lives

The winners have been announced of a contest showing how attending college has opened doors in entrants’ lives.

Results of the StudentVoices video competition, organised by the College Promise Campaign (CPC), were given at PromiseNet2019 in Berkeley, California.

“Community college is a tool that transformed my adversity into academics and activism,” said Cheska Torres Ibasan, a Central Arizona College student named as one of the four winners. “And it can be yours, too.”

Testimonials from the other winners – Aerin Fulton, David Santafe-Zambrano and Sommer Mayer – were also shared at the November 4-5 event, a gathering of education and civic leaders, policy makers and philanthropists, intended to “spark ideas, energy and action” for further higher education initiatives.

Competition entrants were asked to submit short videos outlining the benefits of a college education, and how they had profited in their own lives.

“Submissions capture diverse stories and impacts of students pursuing higher education,” said Rosye Cloud of CPC, a nonprofit initiative aiming to build widespread support for funding quality college learning. “Promise programs fuel their passion to pursue an exciting career and create a world view of opportunities ahead.”
