Writable surfaces encourage creativity at Eton College

Inside the new Creative ICT Suite at Eton College, by Lewandowski Architects and Spaceoasis

The Tony Little Centre for Innovation and Research in Learning (CIRL) at Eton College is designed to develop Eton’s expertise in teaching and learning.  Masters use the centre to try new methods of teaching and to share best practice, while Eaton’s students experience new ways of learning in a non-traditional environment unlike any other in the school.

Working with Lewandowski Architects, Spaceoasis designed and installed three very different learning spaces in the centre. The Creative ICT Suite is designed to allow the flexible and collaborative use of ICT. Agile furniture and writable surfaces encourage creative thinking and collaboration.  Upholstered seating, stools, mobile tables and screens can all be moved around, enabling an informal approach that integrates technology in a more relaxed and flexible way than the rigid, fixed bank of screens of a traditional technology suite.  The plethora of writable surfaces in this space also encourages creativity and collaboration in a way that paper and pens simply can’t match.
