During the pandemic these networks have been essential for remote collaboration and distance learning, enabling establishments to function during the restrictions the pandemic has required.
However this means keeping networks secure and protected from an increased level of cyber threat has become paramount.
As we look forward to a “new normal” this webinar will explore how IT networks can bring innovation to the university campus of the future, to differentiate the student experience, integrate multiple services including building services and CCTV, and provide insight through AI driven analytics with applications for the wellbeing of students.

Amanda Niblett, IT Director, University of East London
Amanda is an IT professional with 30 years’ experience of working with or in the Higher Education Sector. Most recently involved in delivering digital transformation through a radical business change strategy with major investment focussing on the digital environment. Her venture into the world of IT was accidental following the successful implementation of an IT system for residential management which, upon completion, resulted in an offer to join the IT department of the University of Southampton where she remained for 10 years before moving to the University of East London in 2015. As a non-technical IT Director, her understanding, knowledge and network within the HE sector has seen the successful transformation of the IT provision at UEL particularly in light of the current pandemic which saw the University’s entire teaching portfolio switch to online learning overnight from 23 March 2020.
Gerard Donohue, Chief Technical Officer, Telent
As CTO at Telent since early 2015, Gerard provides extensive knowledge of the current and emerging technologies trends required to deliver digital transformation initiatives such as Industry 4.0. As part of his remit, Gerard analyses these trends and insights, building a technology strategy roadmap as part of the CTO office. This ensures that Telent offers services delivering the tangible business benefits and innovation required to sustain its existing clients and attract new customers. Currently, he is engaged with technologies such as private 5G, Edge Compute and connected things (sensors, connected people, vehicles), how they offer a solution to a problem, how they complement or replace existing technologies and solutions. Gerard has over 30 years’ experience in the ICT and Telecommunications market starting out as a field service engineer. His knowledge has been gained across a broad range of technologies, from maintaining mainframes, building and operating client server environments to, designing IP communication networks.
Ruth Drysdale, Jisc
I work with universities for whom enhancing the student experience is a strategic priority. I support the digital experience insights service which gathers evidence of how students and staff see their digital environment. This builds on previous experience supporting students’ success across their digital journey through higher education. I worked with universities for whom enhancing the student journey is a strategic priority and who were carrying out a review of their student systems. This included reviewing how universities have technically implemented the Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR) and the emergence of digital credentials for wider and lifelong achievements.
