Literacy (including digital literacy) and numeracy are essential skills that many young people lack. According to the Literacy Trust, low levels of literacy cost the UK taxpayer £2.5bn each year, while research conducted by KCL revealed that just one in five UK adults can achieve maths GCSE grade C when asked to answer a set of numeracy questions.
